Salamander upbeat on Angklung gas potential |
LONDON -- Salamander Energy estimates gas resources in the greater Angklung area, offshore East Kalimantan, at 750 bcf, with upside potential for 1.23 tcf.
The company bases this estimate on drilling and test results from the recent Angklung-1 discovery well, and 3D seismic data across the Angklung structure and the adjacent Kecapi and Bedug prospects.
Salamander puts Angklung’s mean gas resources at 290 bcf, with upside potential of 420 bcf.
The Kecapi stratigraphic prospect, in the hanging wall of the Angklung fault, could contain mean prospective resources of 209 bcf, with upside potential of 336 bcf.
Finally, the Bedug structural prospect could hold 344 bcf, with upside potential of 496 bcf.
Salamander points out that these assessments only reflect gas resources at the Pliocene level, and do not include any prospective resources associated with the oil- and gas-bearing Upper Miocene sandstone play highlighted by the Angklung-1 well.
Elsewhere in the Asia/Pacific region, the Ocean Sovereign has been on tow to the B8/38 license area in the Gulf of Thailand, where it will drill three exploration wells for Salamander along with six development wells on the Bualuang field.
The first prospect to be drilled will be the Bualuang East Terrace, estimated to contain a mean 7 MMbbl of oil with upside potential of 14 MMbbl.
